Adam VanderLaan

Adam joined Lighthouse in June 2008 and has been involved with the Lead Hazard Control Program in the City of Grand Rapids for the past 4 years, working with several contractors to help make hundreds of homes healthier and safer for the families and children that live there.  Adam has been involved in the construction trade for over 20 years, working as a carpenter on the southeast side for the past 8 years.

For Adam "one thing in particular that stands out working with Lighthouse is the strong connection with our community; Lighthouse cares about the people they serve and the community."  Adam appreciates Lighthouse's mission of providing affordable housing and hopes to contribute his talents, experience and knowledge to support that mission. In his own words, "Lighthouse gives us one more way to stay part of the many positive changes happening every day in our diverse part of this city."

Adam and his wife Jessica have lived and have been raising their 3 children in the southeast side for over 15 years. "When not working, like most parents in our community, my spare time is filled fairly quickly by driving and attending our kids' school and sports functions, and when there is a little time left over, we enjoy most outside activities," Adam says.
